I have just returned from being away on business for a couple of days and whilst away I visited a customer of mine in the Lowestoft area. Due to previous visits to Lowestoft I was already aware of a single wind turbine on the sea front and, due to the current situation in the Lenches, I decided to pay a visit.

What has alarmed me is the noise from this turbine, which incidently is the same type of the proposed turbines for the Lenches, i.e. 125 metres tall. To be fair, the sound of the blades rotating is relatively quiet with just a slight 'whooshing' sound. However, the sound of the turbines / generators is particularly disturbing, even though I was approximately 150 metres away and this was just one turbine! I have a video file taken on my mobile phone for those that would be interested to hear it for themselves without having to travel to Lowestoft.

After my visit to Lowestoft, I made my way to visit another customer in Lincoln later that afternoon. It has been a while since I have travelled this route and I was amazed to discover the recent erection of many windfarms. However, these were away from residential areas, mainly on the Fenlands, and were not disturbing in any way. I would even go as far to say that, similar to the spokesman from Scottish Renewables, they do indeed blend into the background when they are so far away from eveyone and everything. However, as we are so aware, there is a massive difference between the background and the foreground of just 500 metres!

Surely there are more suitable sites within the UK.
